Project Progress Report: Research on Human Psychic Issues in Puerto Rico and Historical Influences Date: 1st September 2024 Project Team Member: Walter Rivera Santos This research project is dedicated to exploring human psychic issues in Puerto Rico, focusing on understanding how historical events and cultural dynamics have influenced them. By examining the historical context, the project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the factors that shape psychic well-being, and its powers, in the region. Our team is preparing for an extensive review of the literature on Puerto Rico. This includes historical records, academic studies, and cultural analyses that address human psychic issues and their historical roots. This foundational work is crucial for contextualizing the research and understanding the broader landscape. A cultural research work for a Ph.D., her book collection, has been acquired. Data collection is currently underway. We are gathering insights through surveys, interviews, and focus groups with individuals across Puerto Rico. This process is designed to capture both historical and contemporary influences on psychic well-being, allowing us to identify patterns and trends that have persisted or evolved. We have begun a detailed examination of historical events, cultural shifts, and societal dynamics that have impacted psychic issues in Puerto Rico. This analysis is essential for creating a comprehensive understanding of how the past has shaped present-day mental health challenges in the region. Initial engagements with local historians, mental health professionals, and community representatives have been fruitful. These interactions have provided valuable perspectives on the intersection of history and psychic well-being, which will inform our ongoing research. Our next step is to analyze the data collected to identify unique historical patterns and their contemporary manifestations. This will be critical in drawing connections between past events and current psychic issues within Puerto Rico. We plan to expand our outreach efforts to ensure that diverse communities within Puerto Rico are represented. This will help us gather a wide range of experiences and viewpoints, enriching the overall research. We will continue to collaborate with local historians and cultural experts. Their insights will be instrumental in refining our analysis of historical influences, ensuring that our findings are both nuanced and well-informed. Access to historical records and primary sources may pose challenges. To overcome this, we are exploring innovative methods to gather and interpret historical data that might not be readily available. Given the sensitive nature of this research, especially regarding historical influences on psychic issues, we are committed to employing culturally sensitive approaches when engaging with local communities. This project is progressing as planned, with the team fully committed to uncovering relevant insights into the historical influences on human psychic issues and powers in Puerto Rico.
